I bought a standing desk a few months ago.
I've heard that standing desks are good for you health. You can be sedentary standing just as you can be sitting.
I sure didn't buy my standing desk for a health reason. The the reason I bought it is much closer to laziness! Imagine the following situation. You are working on your computer, typing away, and the doorbell rings. You:
-stop typing
-scoot out the chair
-stand up
-walk to the door and answer
-sit back down
-adjust the chair
-scoot in
-start working again
Now if you just have a standing desk:
-stop typing
-walk to the door and answer
-start working again
Easy!
I know that I am exaggerating here a little bit. It definitely isn't hard to stand up from, and sit down in, a chair. But, it isn't nothing either! And if you start counting all the times you go back and forth from your desk through out the day, it starts adding up: going to the bathroom, refilling your coffee, taking a break, playing with your daughter, stopping your daughters from fighting.... etc.
After getting a standing desk I have realized there is an unexpected benefit. My daughters can’t reach it. My desk is in the TV and toy room but my computer is safe. I can even work while my girls are playing or watching TV.
We have been in Tokyo for a few months now and, even though my desk has motors to lower and raise it easily, I haven’t lowered it since we got here. It just hasn’t been necessary.
My wife and I like the desk so much, we bought a second one for her!
