Baked Sweet Potato

I ate a sweet potato and it changed my life!

Do you like 焼き芋? I do. I love it!

My wife and I both love the juicy sticky type much more than the fluffy type. For me and my American tongue, the sweeter the better.

My wife read a blog about making delicious sweet potatoes. According to the blog, if you follow their instructions you can cook delicious sweet baked sweet potatoes easily!

As per the blog, we ordered some expensive sweet potatoes online. We got a big box of the 甘太くん sweet potatoes from Oita prefecture.

First Try

We followed the baking instructions: water oven, 170 degrees, no preheating, 45 minutes.

And....

It was good… a bit hard. Nothing special. I was disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high.

Second Try

We didn't give up. We tried again.

It was still hard so we decided to cook longer. This time we cooked the potatoes for 1 hour.

When it was finally finish and we took the potatoes out of the oven. I could already tell it was different this time. They were covered in sticky juice that seeped out all over the oven while they were cooking.

We put a fork in one to pick it up but, it was too soft and it just broke in half. The inside was a deep yellow color, as if it had been soaked in syrup. The texture was like butter.

I somehow manage to wait long enough that I didn’t burn myself trying to eat one. It was the best sweet potato I have ever eaten! This is everything I was hoping for.

The Future

Now that I have tasted the perfect baked sweet potato, I am worried. I used to love eating any sweet potato. I was never worried about it being sweet enough or soft enough. But, now I know better. I don't know if I can settle for anything the best.

It will probably be fine. I'm sure I still eat anything!
