I got my hair cut last week and my barber recommended a trip to Hakone. My wife had a day off so, on a whim, we decided to go.
I have heard the name "Hakone" before but I didn’t know anything about it. I couldn’t even point it out on a map. I learned a lot on our trip last week.
Hakone is a popular vacation spot for Tokyo residence. There is a lively shopping area and many onsen and ryokan. There is also the Hakone Ekiden, a famous long relay-style race for university students every year.
While I researched Hakone for our trip, I realized something. I have been to Hakone before! Back in 2005, my first time in Japan, I was taken to Hakone shrine on Lake Ashinoko . At that time I couldn’t speak any Japanese and I didn’t understand anything that was happening. I barely remember anything we did at that time.
My families Hakone trip was very short, only a single night. But, we had a lot of fun.
